British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh
David Lelliott became the first British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh in May 2013. David is a career diplomat with over twenty years of experience. He has previously worked in the Middle East, Latin America, Africa and Europe, as well as two spells in London. He has handled a wide range of portfolios, notably on conflict prevention and resolution, having served in Liberia from 2003-2006, immediately after the civil war there, and in Southern Sudan from 2008-09, with a spell in between as Conflict Prevention Team Leader at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. He has also worked on trade promotion in Mexico from 2000-2003. Other appointments have focused on political, governance and media work. His most recent appointment before moving to India was as Assistant Deputy Governor of Gibraltar, a UK Overseas Territory, where he acted as the Governorâ€™s spokesperson and dealt with a range of policy, governance, security and defense issues. In 2006, following his return from Liberia, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
