Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech on the Independence Day 2015 announced the “Startup India Initiative†and since then the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) Is spearheading the initiative and providing substantial backing to foster the startup ecosystem. The allocation of 1000 crore rupees through the SETU fund, setting up of MUDRA Bank, Atal Innovation Fund (AIM), slashing Royalty Tax from 25% to 10% by the government was highly appreciated by the startup community. The 1991 economic reforms, globalization and rise of IT industry in India and some other factors, have also been largely responsible for the rise of entrepreneurship in India.
Today, India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world turning itself around from a nation of job seekers to a nation of job creators. India’s own ecosystem of startup is evolving rapidly which is driven by energy, enterprise and innovation of youth and India is turning into a startup nation. Never before in the history of the country have so many powerful forces come together to enable the Indian startup ecosystem. To boot entrepreneurship and to make it easy to start your business, TiE since inception has executed enormous initiatives in this direction with setting up network of incubators, accelerators and mentors that would help set up, grow and stabilize new businesses, with an emphasis on social enterprises and commercial adaptation of grass-root level innovations.
It is said that 90% of the startups fail. Cold statistic like this is not intended to discourage entrepreneurs, but to encourage them to work smarter and harder. As the Indian Startup ecosystem becomes more conducive to start your own venture, there is a strong need for the startups to have a strong vision, disruption in their business ideas, latest technology knowhow, awareness of the government offerings, best funding options available.
